IIT INDORE had started its Social Outreach Program in 2011 with the constitution of a social organization called "AVANA" constituted by a group of socially conscious faculty members and students. The group has so far reached out to a neighboring school and extended their support to the school in various forms including teaching students about cleanliness and hygiene.
Today IIT Indore enters another domain of getting directly involved with the society in terms of spreading the sense of cleanliness and hygiene starting with its immediate vicinity at the small village of SIMROL. It has adopted the local Government School which parents students from primary to higher secondary levels.
With the launch of "SWACHCHA BHARAT ABHIYAN" in coordiantion with the Central Government, IIT INDORE has started its contribution by providing hands, concepts and cleanliness related materials to the Government School SIMROL on 2nd October 2014.
On 2nd October 2014, A group of about 200 volunteers comprising of the Director, IITI, faculty members, non-teaching staff and students joined hand in hand with the students of the Government School SIMROL, to clean the campus of the school which was littered with plastic, paper and other unclean and unsafe components of environment. Informal speeches were given by faculty members of IIT Indore and hygiene was discussed with the students and teachers of the school. The school authority was extremely delighted that such an initiative was taken by IIT Indore and it turned out that IIT Indore's presence and involvement was most welcome by the school.
