Prof. Neelesh Kumar Jain joined IIT Indore as Associate Professor in Jan 2010 and became Professor in Dec. 2013. He did PhD (2003) and MTech (1995) from IIT Kanpur with specialization in Manufacturing Science and BE in Mechanical Engineering from SGSITS Indore in 1993. Before joining IIT Indore, he served Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at IIT Roorkee during June 2004 to Jan. 2010; South Asia International Institute, Hyderabad during June 2003 to May 2004 and Netaji Subhash Institute of Technology, New Delhi during July 2002 to June 2003.

Prof. Neelesh Kumar Jain works on various aspects of advanced and hybrid machining processes, micro-machining, nano-finishing, micro-joining processes through experimental investigations. He has extensively worked on establishing electrochemical honing (ECH) process as a precision gear finishing process, establishing WEDM as near-net shape manufacturing process for miniature gears and development of micro-plasma transferred arc process for metallic deposition, joining of SS thin sheets, for repair of cracks in dies and gears. His work also include modeling and process parameters optimization of machining processes and process selection of manufacturing processes.

Prof. Jain has played significant role in the institutional development of IIT Indore in general and PACL campus, Virtual Classroom under National Knowledge Network (NKN), and Central Workshop in particular. He has developed five state of art research and teaching labs at IIT Indore namely 1. Metrology Lab; 2. Gear Research Lab; 3. Advanced Manufacturing Processes Lab, 4. Machining Science Lab; 5. Manufacturing Process Lab. He is also Coordinator of DST-FIST Center of Excellence in Gear Engineering established at IIT Indore in 2015.

Prof. Jain has served as Member of 1st Board of Governors of IIT Indore during April 2010 to July 2012 and is 1st Dean, Academic Affairs at IIT Indore since Oct 2010. As the DOAA, he has played significant role in developing UG and PG Course curriculum, academic infrastructure and setup, academic procedures, etc. at IIT Indore.
